Adirondack Chair Plans
Did you know that you can make your own adirondack chair? The only hard part in making an adirondack chair is to know what tools to buy and plans to follow. Most chair plans will be made out of wood because wood is more forgiving than plastics and worked with easier.
The tools you will need are a drill, a skill saw or chop saw, a jigsaw, and perhaps a router for fancier designs. You will also want to have some sandpaper and sandpaper block on hand to smooth out areas that are recently cut.
If you really look at an adirondack chair, you may notice that they are mostly made out of larger two by fours. Most of the adirondack chairs are made of two by six and two by ten pieces. The larger width pieces is what gives the adirondack chair the beefier look than other chairs. You will also want some one by twos for support.
The last step is to stain the wood. The best looking stains bring out the natural color of the wood. You should also seal the stain with a polyurethane coat for protection.
If you can afford it, purchase cedar or redwood. They are the best looking and most weather resistant of all the woods. If you are on a budget, you can also use some pressure treated pine. The chair will still last quite a long time. Make sure and treat the chair with a weather proof coating.
